The Rams improve to 2-1 after the 7-6 win over Seneca in Round 3 of the Groucho’s Deli Shock City Invitational. Ethan Barbee (1-0) threw 4 2/3 innings of one-hit baseball to secure the first varsity win of his young career. Tristan Elgin finished the deal to record his second save of the season.
The Rams scored their first run in the first inning, thanks to three consecutive two out hits by Cade Langston, Nate Bailey, and Jaden Cribb. The game remained 1-0 until the 5th, when Zade Miles lead off walk led to a Mikey Scott 2B and consecutive Seneca errors. Braeden Jordan then capped off the 5-run 5th with a 2 out, 2-RBI pinch hit single.
Seneca answered vs. the Rams bullpen for four runs of their own in the bottom half of the 5th. The Bobcats tacked on a 5th run in the 6th inning. The Rams answered with an insurance run in the top half of the 7th, thanks to Nate Bailey’s lead-off 3B being capped off with an RBI groundout. A crucial Westside error led to a Bobcat run in the 7th, but Tristan Elgin was able to stop the bleeding on the mound and help the Rams come away with the victory.
Westside will look to finish the 1st Annual Groucho’s Deli Shock City Invitational off in positive fashion, as Southside Christian comes to town for the 7:30 game on Thursday (3/5).
