INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:

ACADEMIC AWARD: This award goes to the wrestler on the team with the highest overall grade point average. This year’s recipient is ranked in the top 5% of his class with a 4.8 GPA. He has consistently performed at a high academic level throughout his high school career, even with four different honors classes this year. This wrestler exemplifies the meaning of the words “Student-Athlete”. The Academic Award goes to Khaliel Young.

TERRY BRANDS IRON MAN AWARD: This award is named after former World Champion wrestler and Olympic medalist Terry Brands. Coach Brands famously said, “You get what you earn. Success isn’t guaranteed or given to you. Success is earned through hard work and dedication.” Although there were several wrestlers considered for this award, there is one that stands out. This student-athlete always trained hard, not only for himself, but with the goal of making his teammates around him better. He would train for and travel to events that he wasn’t even competing in. You could actually see his body transforming throughout the season as he did his daily 100 pushups. We would to recognize him for all of his hard work. The Terry Brands Iron Man Award goes to Tyler Aros.

MOST OUTSTANDING WRESTLER: This year’s most outstanding wrestler has been a workhorse for the varsity program for three years now. He was one of our team captains this year and easily our most consistent performer this season with an overall record of 33-7 and 7-0 in Region 1-5A. He was the runner up at the Anderson County Tournament and the Region 1-5A Champion at 182 pounds. Our 2019-2020 Most Outstanding Wrestler is Gabe Liddell.

SEASON SYNOPSIS:

The wrestling program saw some major growth this season, improving from 6 wins (6-16 overall) in 2019 to 17 wins and an overall winning record (17-15 overall) as a team in 2020. The Rams also had two Anderson County Champions and one Region 1-5A Champion. With only 3 seniors, the future is bright for the Rams to fight for Region 1-4A supremacy next season.

Thanks for a great season, team!
